Update – Issues with uploading the Severe Mental Illness Physical Health Checks template in EMIS

Many practices have contacted the CCG to say that they are unable to upload the revised SMI Physical Health Checks template in EMIS. Following discussions with the EMIS helpdesk, it appears that the EMIS Library concepts embedded within the template have now been converted to SNOMED CT meaning it will not work until practices have migrated. The CCG are working to try and rectify this issue and an update will be sent to practices in due course.

Herefordshire & Worcestershire STP Primary Care Estates Sub Group

Please find the latest Herefordshire & Worcestershire STP Primary Care Estates Strategy which has been approved by the CCGs’ Primary Care Commissioning Committee and forms part of the STP Estates Strategy submitted to NHS England in July and awaiting final approval during September.

The Primary Care Estates Strategy will need to be updated on a regular basis as projects progress and strategies evolve, and this will be one of the responsibilities of the CCGs’ re-formed Primary Care Estates Sub Group. The Group will report to the General Practice Transformation Board and will also:

  • Consider applications from practices wishing to bring additional space into GMS use
  • Review draft Business Plans for the development of new practice premises
  • Consider applications for practices wishing to enter into a sale and leaseback arrangement
  • Consider applications from practices wishing to move premises
  • Consider and prioritise bids for capital funding as and when it becomes available
  • Consider other primary care estates related matters as they arise

The Group will comprise

  • CCG Associate Director of Primary Care
  • CCG Deputy Chief Finance Officer
  • CCG Primary Care Commissioning Manager
  • NHSE Primary Care Premises Lead (West Midlands)
  • LMC representative
  • GP
  • Practice Manager

We are looking for a GP and a Practice Manager to join the Group – if you are interested please contact Jo Hall, Primary Care Commissioning Manger, either by email at jo.hall@nhs.net or on phone number 01905 681967.  It is anticipated that this will be a quarterly commitment.

UTI Toolkit

The UTI Toolkit - A Guide for Care Homes, is an extension of a previously approved document ‘Urinalysis in Care Homes’.

The UTI Toolkit has been developed to support a simple and effective approach to prevention, diagnosis and management of urinary tract infections. This guide has been reviewed following the publication of Public Health England’s (PHE) ‘Diagnosis of urinary tract infections (UTI) ’released November 2018 and NICE guideline (NG 109), UTI: antimicrobial prescribing published October 2018. One of the biggest changes to this guidance was the removal of dipsticking urine of adults over 65 years of age as part routine diagnosis for a UTI.

This toolkit builds on the previous document to support better urine sampling and includes a number of best practice guidelines for collecting a urine sample. The document introduces an assessment tool that has been designed Nationally as part of the to dip or not to dip project and supports staff to assess symptoms that may indicate a resident has a UTI/CAUTI and then records actions taken. The Toolkit includes a number of the resources developed locally to support UTI prevention and hydration messages. The Toolkit introduces a poster designed to be displayed where the dipsticks are kept so that staff are reminded of when they are not appropriate to be used and also provides some key messages around antibiotic stewardship.

Prescribing Top Tip

The list of preferred Worcestershire brands has been updated and can be found on the Prescribing resources for clinicians section of the APC website.

2019 GP Patient Survey

Please follow this link to access the results of the 2019 GP Patient Survey. The report has been updated to include all Herefordshire and Worcestershire practices.

You will see from the results, a number of our practices continue to exceed national figures. This is a significant achievement in such a demanding environment – congratulations to all the teams involved.

The results of the survey will impact on a number of areas. They can demonstrate how positive access and services are when we’re planning for future developments and play a key part in discussions with service providers and other organisations. As you know CCGs and the individual practice results are monitored very closely by NHSE/I, CQC and of course the local press. Across both counties there is a significant variation between the lowest and highest survey results and this will continue to be an area of focus for the H&W Primary Care Quality and Risk Sub-Committee.

The survey was conducted between January 2019 and March 2019. Survey details can be accessed via the website.
