NHS App Updates

Faces of the NHS App campaign

The patient-facing campaign for the NHS App launched this week, revealing the first nine frontline NHS staff members who have been selected to become the ‘faces’ of the campaign materials. They are among over 600 ‘app ambassadors’ from across England who have volunteered to help promote the app to both patients and staff.

Since the ambassadors came onboard the number of registered users of the app has more than doubled to over 244,000, with over 9,700 new organ donors registering in this way.

A new toolkit for comms colleagues can be accessed to promote the app to patients and/or staff. More materials for practices are in development (including films and an easy-read leaflet) and will be circulated soon.

FOR ACTION: please use the toolkit and #NHSApp on social media to share the messages via your own channels.

FOR ACTION: complete this short survey from NHS Digital to give them an idea of which organisations have been implementing comms developed so far about the NHS App.

H&W CCG Constitution

Practice Sign-off Required by Friday 14th February

As part of  the Herefordshire and Worcestershire CCGs’ merger into a single CCG from 1 April 2020 and the authorisation process put in place by NHSE/I, we are required to develop a new Constitution signed up to by all our member practices, which sets out how the CCG will operate. Please find the following documentation as a single, consolidated document:

  • Constitution – Sets out, in high level terms, the CCG’s operating model, structure and responsibilities
  • Appendix 2: Statutory Terms of Reference – The terms of reference of the CCG’s statutory committees; Audit Committee, Primary Care Commissioning Committee and Remuneration and Appointments Committee
  • Appendix 3: Standing Orders - Sets out the arrangements for meetings and the selection and appointment processes for the CCG’s Committees; and the CCG Governing Body
  • Appendix 4: Standing Financial Instructions - Sets out the delegated limits for financial commitments on behalf of the CCG.

This attachment was also circulated by email on 23rd January and we would be grateful if all practices could confirm that you’re happy to sign up to the constitution by no later than Friday 14 February.

We are of course happy to answer any questions you may have in relation to the document. Could any queries be directed to Tony Ciriello, Corporate Governance Manager in the first instance.

Returning Referrals

The revised 2-week wait referral forms have now been in circulation since the end of July 2019 and a recent audit suggested over 80% of referrals are now being made using the revised forms. The decision to revise the referral forms was taken to ensure all forms were in a standardised format and clearly identified the fields to be completed to allow the referral to be processed in line with Best Practice Pathways, which includes straight to test and one stop clinics and delivery of the 28-day Faster Diagnosis Standard from April 2020.

PCN Update

PCN Workforce videos available

Under the Network Contract DES, funding is made available to PCNs through a new Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme to recruit additional posts across five specific roles, over the next five years. The Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme entitles PCNs to access funding to support recruitment of the following; clinical pharmacists and social prescribing link workers in 19/20, physician associates and physiotherapists in 20/21 and paramedics in 21/22.

To help PCNs find out more about these new roles and the benefits to the practices of having them, we have put some short videos together in conjunction with the H&W Primary Care Training Hub showing interviews with some local GPs and members of staff already in those roles at Practices across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Personality Disorders in Primary Care

Sent on behalf of Flora Burn, Trainee Clinical Psychologist, Royal Holloway University

I am inviting you to be involved with a research study investigating GPs attitudes towards personality disorders.

We have developed a pack of information for GPs to learn more about working with people with personality disorders, or personality difficulties (PD). For example, this may include some challenging behaviours GPs see on a regular basis. In this information package we provide a background of PD, as well as some techniques and strategies which GPs may find helpful. It has been developed by myself and a Clinical Psychologist who has lots of experience working with PD.

This study forms part of my doctorate in clinical psychology training. This research has been approved by the Research Ethics Committee at Royal Holloway University, London.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could share this study with your GP colleagues, and I hope that it is a useful tool for your GPs.

You can take part in the study by following this link.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me
