Measles outbreak and MMR vaccination plans

Public Health England (PHE) has issued this letter following confirmation of a recent case of measles in a member of the school community at an independent boarding school in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. The school has a significant number of international students of unknown or uncertain MMR vaccination history.

Asperger's Assessment and Support Service

The CCG has now taken over commissioning responsibility for this service from Worcestershire County Council, and will be managed by the MH Team.

Additional investment has been made to reduce the waiting times for patients, and following a procurement exercise.

The Family Psychologist will be continuing to provide Worcestershire with support pathway for Adults with social communications difficulties linked to Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). The service will provide support for the social disabilities linked to ASC, as well as, for those for whom assessment is warranted, a diagnostic pathway. Support will include working to produce an individual support plan for adults referred, as well as liaison and sign-posting onto wider service provision. The new pathway is attached for information, including the threshold for a full diagnostic assessment so that the demand can be managed and waiting times reduce.

All patients who are currently on the waiting list will be contacted by the service to offer access to a range of support to enable them to understand their condition and how to manage any functional difficulties they may have.

An EMIS referral template is attached for you to use with the AQ10 assessment form that will need to be completed.

Availability of Kardia AliveCor mobile ECG devices to improve detection of people with Atrial Fibrillation (AF)

As part of a national drive to reduce strokes caused by AF, NHS England has formalised the procurement of £500k worth of mobile ECG devices, which will be disseminated through the Academic Health Science Networks. The Worcestershire CCGs put in an expression of interest to increase the number of devices available within practices across Worcestershire. We have now taken delivery of 78 devices that are available for distribution to practices. The intention is to ensure that every practice has access to two mobile ECG devices and therefore welcome expressions of interest from all practices to ensure this is achieved. Devices will be distributed to those practices with less than two devices available to them. A copy of the device guidance is below for information.

We have received expressions of interest from a number of practices and around half of the devices have already been distributed and are actively being used. We are keen to ensure that as many practices as possible have access to two devices and therefore we encourage all practices who do not have this, contact Anita Roberts (anitaroberts@nhs.net) as soon as possible to reserve a device/s.

The WMAHSN will require all parties receiving devices to complete a Memorandum of Understanding, a copy of which is below for information. Dr Richard Davies is also available to any practice requiring training in the use of the device.

Please complete the below MoU and confirm the number of devices required.

New TIA referral form

The CCGs have received feedback from the Stroke Physicians at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust that a significant number of TIA referrals are still being made using the old TIA referral form.

Please ensure the new TIA Referral Form is uploaded on to your system as soon as possible and all other versions are deleted/removed.

Many thanks for your co-operation in this matter.

Outpatient physio number

The new phone number for outpatient physio went live earlier this month.

Please ensure that you have the correct number on your records and delete any previous numbers that you may have.

The new number is 0300 7900 599.

Due to some issues, we have been asked by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to pass on the below letters, regarding blood tests.

The letters contain information on opening times and patient ID and a reminder of the Phlebotomy service at the Alexandra Hospital.

April GMS Statement – Mislabelled Payment

Several practices have reported an unusual payment in April being displayed as:

  • NHSE ERS Pay Apr

When looking on Open Exeter it reads:

  • INDEMG C&M-GMS GP Indemnity Payments 52161002 STANDARD

Please note that these payments have been labelled incorrectly and actually relate to the NHS e-referral system, as per the email from Darren Huggins. Payment is based on weighted patients numbers.
