GP Participation/Reporting Form for clinical risk template letters seasonal flu 2018/19

GP Participation/Reporting Form for clinical risk template letters seasonal flu 2018/19.

NHS England would like to invite GP’s to participate in a GP Personalised Flu Invite Letter Enhanced Service for the 2018/19 flu programme.

The scheme will require the practice to send a personalised invitation letter to patients in specific clinical risk groups. There will be a payment of £1.50 for every letter sent.

There is a single form for agreeing to participate in the scheme and for providing the activity data once all letters have been sent out. The form should been completed fully to enable payment to be made. The completed form should be returned to england.phadmin@nhs.net on or before 5pm on 16 November 2018.

Please see the following attachments:

Clarification regarding safeguarding training highlighted in the 5 September Members Practice Update

We would like to clarify the use of the word mandatory in an item posted in the Members Practice Update dated 5 September. In that edition there was a piece headed Mandatory Training related to some Safeguarding and Prevent training being offered.

This has caused some confusion within the practices, we would like to clarify that attendance at these sessions is NOT mandatory. The title was meant to highlight these sessions as an option to practices to complete any mandatory training needs they have.

Our apologies for the confusion this may have caused.

Please circulate the invitation to any colleagues who may also be interested in attending.

Prescribing Top Tip

Availability of Travoprost 40mcg Eye Drops

Generic preparations of travoprost 40mcg eye drops 2.5ml are now widely available, following the patent expiry of Travatan®. The current NHS list prices of travoprost compared to Travatan® are listed below:

Product

NHS List Price

Travatan ® Eye Drops 2.5ml

£10.95 (Mims Sept 18)

Travoprost Eye Drops 2.5ml

£6.11 (Drug Tariff Sept 18, category M)

Travoprost is not currently listed as a prescribing “brand to generic” switch in the PCE contract, since the price reduction occurred too late in the year. Switching to the generic product therefore offers additional opportunities for practices to reduce prescribing variation.

Based on 12 month’s prescribing to July 2018, a 100% switch to generic travoprost could deliver the following savings throughout the Worcestershire CCGs:

CCG

Current spend on Travatan®

Savings opportunity over 12 months

Redditch & Bromsgrove

£3,890.50

£1,867

South Worcestershire

£27,128.45

£12,515

Wyre Forest

£7,099.72

£2,966

TOTAL

£38,118.67

£17,348

A prescribing message has been activated on the Optimise Rx® prescribing support software to direct prescribers to the generic product.

If you have any suggestions for inclusion in the 'Top Tips' then please send them to akingham@nhs.net
