ICE requesting and results

Follow up message - original issue email to practices on 15 October 2018

Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospital Trust has recently experienced an issue with one of their servers which has impacted the ability to access some of their IT systems. Patients have still be seen and treated safely. Clinic appointments, planned procedures and emergency care provision continued as normal, however they were unable to accept electronic request or send results electronically for pathology or imaging tests.

The issues have now been resolved and normal processes for pathology and imaging have been reinstated.

Should you be concerned about a particular result you can call either of the following hotline numbers:

  • Pathology: 0121 507 5162
  • Imaging: 0121 507 3608

Thank you for your support in this matter.

Implementation of ROLE on EPR

Please be advised that the process for recording ROLE (Recognition of Life Extinct) on EPR is about to be implemented throughout the region, following a successful pilot in Staffordshire. The Trust has received agreement from all of the region’s coroners to allow operational staff to record deceased patient information on EPR from 00:01hrs on Thursday 1 November.

The EPR cases will be sent to the respective coroners each day. During the process, if the patient is matched (NHS number) then the attached summary will be sent to the registered GP practice if they are on Docman. As with all of EPR records, if they require more detail then the GP can request via medical records the full EPR.

The current process of contacting the surgeries by the Clinical Support Desk, will not change in the short term, but we will be looking to streamline this process. If you require any further information please contact Pippa Wall (pippa.wall@wmas.nhs.uk).

Guidance for GP practices in England: advice for patients aged 65 years and over regarding 2018\19 flu vaccination

Practices will shortly be receiving two letters from NHSE regarding the above. We know how concerned practices are with the shortage of vaccines and we hope to have a better idea of any excess\shortfall remaining by the time you have received your final deliveries and completed the majority of your flu clinics.

Child trafficking - Roma children, pregnancy and exploitation

Since 2017, Barnardo’s Panel for the Protection of Trafficked Children (PPTC) has identified a trend regarding Roma (predominantly Romanian) children being discussed at our multi-agency panel. The concerns centre around the disproportionately high numbers of under 18 pregnancies in this cohort, and the apparent links to benefit fraud and other forms of exploitation.
